Baby steps

Some have been asking about Jack's size -- he is 7.9kg and 71cm (measurements taken at the routine visit to the local medical clinic in town, the one that has all of his medical charts. A doctor from this clinic visits the orphanage and did the initial consultation on behalf of our adoption agency. Apart from a touch of a cold, which all the children from the orphanage get regularly, Jack is in good shape)

Slowly, day by day we are settling into a routine with Jack. Of coarse, once we are settled, we will have to make the long journey home which will disrupt any sense of routine (!) Gradually Jack is getting to know us and becoming comfortable in our presense. He is not as afraid when he gets up each morning or after a nap. He is starting to chuckle and laugh. He loves his bouncy chair (the best $40 investment we made for this trip). He is sleeping on average 2 to 2.5 hours at a time. Used to getting up at 4am at the orphanage, he does wake early. Initially he was very unsure of what to do with a simple toy, as at the orphanage, they did not have any to play with. He is gradually learning what to do with small things that make noises, or a ball that bounces. He likes to obverse and watch everything that goes on around him. At the hotel room we have a balcony overlooking the a busy square in town. Whenever Jack is restless, taking him out there, settles him down quite nicely. He is simply facinated with the new world around him.

The Vietnamese passport application was submitted yesterday. By tomorrow we should get a better idea of where things are in the process and from there when we will return home.

blessings
Vanessa, Taylor & Jack

I have been anxious to get to the office this morning and see the Blog. Hurrah!!! Congratulations. We are SO happy for you and are very excited to see you both and Jack. Another little person in your lives. I can't imagine the wonder, strangeness, joy ... the emotions and feelings must be like nothing you expected.
I still try and picture everything and I am sure I am completely wrong, but it is so fun to do. SO glad you are keeping in touch.
Much love
Heather G.

Wonderful to read today's news and have more idea of Jack's weight and size. You are doing a fantastic job with this blog and all the details which fire up our collective imagination.
Today's Hello to Jack comes from David & Graham, who have been in Madeira & the Canaries on their latest cruise. They are on Oceana which is identical to Adonia, which you sailed on with us all to celebrate your engagement. Their final destinations are Cadiz, Lisbon and Vigo - all of which should hold happy memories for Nessa of our very 1st cruise in 2002. D&G send their love to you all and congratulations. They can't wait to meet Jack, just like everyone else.
Give him hugs and kisses from us as well,
Love from B&Dxx

Fantastic
We have been away for 4 days and couldn't wait to get home to check the blog. A lot has happened since we were last able to check (last Thursday) We kept wondering all weekend what was happening with the three of you. What fun we were having making up stories of our own and imagining what you were going through. We couldn't be happier for the three of you. E&R- I love the name of the rose - Star Performer - absolutely perfect. We look forward to your next trip to Canada and getting some photos of the entire Sullivan/Varney Family.

You are always in our prayers!
Love Josie, Bill and the kids

Me again
Give Jack hugs and kisses from the six of us. By the way - he is a good healthy weight and by the sounds of it 'no flies are going to rest on this little boy.'

hi there
Heading of to work right now . Checking the blog as the rest of the family is up north .
Mom called last night for an update.
Its been pretty warm , mind you Jack would probably think its cold here .
How have you three been managing with the humidity ? John and I saw the quiet american and there was a small seen with the hotel ( white ? ) I think of that on the 3rd floor when I am thinking about you
Looking forward to your return home
hope everything is moving ahead
Bye for now
Love Julie ...xoxo

David and I rented "The Quiet American" too (Blockbuster must be wondering about the sudden demand for it.) The juxtaposition of war with the exotic beauty of the land and the people was quite compelling. The scenes of Phuong looking out from her balcony remind me of little Jack and his interest in the bustle below. I'm sure the city has changed since the 50s but we do at least have a better sense of the area and the history.

We're glad to hear Jack is finally able to enjoy the wonders of toys and bouncy chairs. How wonderful it must be to see him chuckle and laugh. Does he like music too?

Take care!

V.

Meg says it sounds like fun.
How wonderful to begin making connections with Jack. How wonderful to see Jack begin to interact and learn about toys, comfort, and your love.
Thank you for the peek into your day.
We are getting very excited.
Take care of each other!

Dear Taylor and Vanessa: Thank you for keeping us informed about your experiences. Baby Jack sounds to be a bouncing
addition to your lives - and what a lucky fellow he is to have such wonderful parents ! We look forward to future episodes,- Pam
is already making grandmotherly noises as she reads your messages, - "ah. poor baby"," isn't he lovely", "poor little fellow confined to a hammock all this time",
etc., etc. Whatever, unto you a boy is given, halleluia, halleluia !!! Much love to all three of you. Pam and Jack.
(I find I am electronically-challenged in blogology.). J..

Finally managed to get on this blog...had a few problems. What can I say? Such a fantastic journey in life for all of you. I'm thrilled for you to have baby Jack and thrilled for baby Jack to have such wonderful parents! It's wonderful to be able to follow your journey-of-a-lifetime...day-by-day. Thanks for sharing that...seemed to be a few ups and downs during the process but everything seems to be on the up-and-up now! Congratulations also to the new grandparents/aunts/uncles in the UK (by the way, what are oneies?) and here. It sounds like Jack is really thriving now and that is exciting. All my best to you.
